Disclaimer: The opinions expressed here are my own and shouldn’t be taken seriously. Let’s just have a pleasant chat about the games we’ve played this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 is my game of the year for 2022. Now, before you go off on me about how it doesn’t make sense considering that the game came out in 2020, hear me out.

The game made a major comeback in 2022. It got a next-gen update, an animated adaption on Netflix, and more updates and patches.

The game works now, in my opinion at least.

But, we’re not here to talk about why Cyberpunk is my GOTY, but rather how I chose it.

I include games I have played for the first time when it comes to picking a winner. For example, I played the Crysis trilogy for the first time in 2022. Crysis 2 ended up being my favorite of the three, and became a candidate for my GOTY.

Why? Because I had never played it before until that year.

Instead of making GOTY about what games that came out that year, I make it about games I played for the first time that year.

It just makes it more fun for me. I’m not saying it’s a perfect system, seeing as it breaks the number one rule of Game of the Year…
