Physical Media and the Rules of Double Dipping.

As time goes on and mankind advances, new formats come and go. Some have the longevity of a Twinkie in a nuclear fallout, and some last as long as an avocado stays ripe.

With all that in mind, a question forms; do you really need another copy of Jurassic Park?

The act of collecting multiple copies of a movie, or set of films, is what I like to call “Double-Dipping”. This is often linked to having duplicates of the same format.

For example, let’s say you have a standard release of a film, but then see a special edition on sale. Getting that special edition is “Double-Dipping”. To save you some time and money, let me set some guidelines to help you decide whether or not picking up more copies is worth it.

The first rule involves time. How long has it been since you bought your last copy?

The longer it has been, the more tempting it might be. If enough time has passed, then perhaps it would be worth it.

The second rule involves your love of the film(s). Having multiple copies of your favorite film is a common occurrence among cinema lovers and physical media collectors.

The more you love a film, the more likely you are to want to collect merchandise from said film.

The third rule involves formats. I find the easiest decisions when it comes to buy multiple copies of a movie is if it’s in a new format. Of course people want to see their favorite films in a…
