Playing Doom (2016) in 2024 Part 1.
Almost ten years old and still ripping.
With all this ‘Doom’ talk I’ve been spewing out, I had the urge to revisit the two modern entries of the series. I hadn’t played the 2016 game in almost three years and it’s been about two years since I last played 2020’s ‘Doom Eternal’.
So, let’s take a moment and discuss one of the best first-person shooters to have come out in the last decade and the game that made me fall in love with the ‘Doom’ series as a whole.
Story.
You play as an ancient warrior dubbed the ‘DoomSlayer’ and have to awaken in order to fight off not only hordes of demons but a corrupt scientist who was promised a cryptocurrency made by Hell.
It’s a relatively simple story that gets you from one arena to the next. There is lore behind certain events, people, and monsters; however, you can choose to ignore it.
Kind of.
Yeah, so, my biggest gripe with the story is that there are a handful of cutscenes that you can’t skip. Which is ironic considering the game has a protagonist that literally throws away any exposition that is…
