What It Means to be a Fan.
I am the only super fan who knows everything.
The concept of being a ‘true fan’ is almost as vague as human rights in Hollywood. You can ask a group of people what it means to be a fan and you’ll usually find a variety of answers.
Some will say you need to know everything about the franchise you’re following. Others will say you will have to have seen everything, even the most obscure pieces. I myself have come to believe that you simply need to like what you like.
Seriously, all you need to be a ‘true fan’ of everything is your own enjoyment.
That’s not to diminish others if they have learned everything there is to learn about a series. I do find it impressive that someone is able to memorize all that lore and behind-the-scenes stuff; however, people shouldn’t be brought down because they don’t know all that stuff.
If they’re happy by just enjoying the series, then let them be happy. There is no need to attack or harass others because they might not fit into your ideals of what a ‘true fan’ might be.
Treat others with respect and like what you like. That is all.
